The purpose of this qualification is to equip learners with knowledge about the scale and context of suicide within the United Kingdom, its associated stigma, and the main risk factors. The aim is to increase their understanding that suicide can be prevented.
Learners will also consider the impact of challenging situations on mood and behaviour, and how this can lead to negative thoughts and feelings. This will help them become aware of how suicidal thoughts can arise and identify those who may be at potential risk of suicide.
IMPORTANT: This qualification focuses on risks and triggers that may lead an individual to experience suicidal thoughts. In view of the subject matter, it is essential that any learner who is either undergoing talking therapies (such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)) or receiving counselling is aware of the sensitivity of the content.
