Overview Our fully online course will teach you about supporting children and young people’s mental health and emotional well-being. You will learn about issues facing children and young people like depression, anxiety and conduct disorder, as well as factors that affect their mental health and the impact mental health problems can have on them and their lives. Around 1 in 10 children and young people are affected by mental health problems, so it’s important that people working with them have a good understanding of mental health. If you want to learn about mental health issues to support children and young people that you work with, or those you care for in your own life, this level 2 course is perfect for you. Course Content This course is divided into 5 units: Understand Children and Young People’s Mental Health in Context: In this unit, you will understand the concept of mental health. An understanding of how society views mental health and how this has changed over time will also be investigated. You will also understand the legislation in place to support children and young people’s mental health. Understand Factors Which May Affect Children and Young People’s Mental Health: In this unit, you will understand the risk factors that can affect children and young people's mental health and how these can be mitigated. You will also investigate how developmental changes and puberty can impact children and young people. Understand Children and Young People’s Mental Health Concerns: During this unit, you will understand behaviours displayed by children and young people that may indicate a mental health concern. You will also investigate common mental health problems that affect children and young people. Understand the Impact of Children and Young People’s Mental Health Concerns: In this unit, you will investigate the impact of mental health concerns on children, young people and others. You will also understand the importance of diagnosis and the reasons why there may be a reluctance to seek a diagnosis. Understand how to Support Children and Young People with Mental Health Concerns: In this unit, learners will understand the support available for children and young people's mental health. You will investigate a person-centred approach, mental health promotion, and the services and treatment available.   Career Progression Our Level 2 Course in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health will give you the kickstart you need to get into careers in Childcare, or Health and Social Care.
